Jonny says:

“Light in character, heavy in texture, a wonderful introduction to why anyone that’s tried Benrinnes, loves Benrinnes.”

Distillery

Benrinnes Distillery lies in the shadow of the eponymous mountain, near the River Spey. An earlier distillery bearing the name was flooded in 1829; today, the current distillery sits on safer ground.

Rob says: “During the distillation process innumerable variables can have an impact upon the finished character of the spirit. The antiquated ‘Worm Tub’ method of condensation employed at Benrinnes not only allows a peek back into a former age of whisky production, but allows a rich, savoury, almost meaty character often to be found in the whisky.”

Tasting Notes

The aromas of this Speyside heavyweight somehow convey the texture of the liquid itself; honey, fresh hay and warm floral notes all build with citrus and fresh Granny Smiths, emerging with time in the glass. The palate is wonderfully quaffable, showing rounded notes of fruit and golden syrup with the meaty character that Benrinnes is known for. This bottle will disappear quickly when placed at the centre of the card table with a group of good friends.
