Joe Whittaker

“Who needs a dessert when you have this fruity and luscious number to hand. A nose reminiscent of Danish pastries, with ripe fruit the most discerning of Patissier chefs would be proud of, with marzipan and a vein of vanilla throughout.”

Tasting Notes

A prelude of spiced, stewed apples and warm apricots tantalise on the nose of this whisky. Soft, sweet aromas of mango, peach and vanilla build with time. The palate is pleasingly textured with apricot jam, honey, green apples and a touch of marzipan across the back palate. Spice and fruit linger on the finish offering fresh incentive for another sip.

Distillery

Blair Athol is located south of Pitlochry in the Vale of Atholl, Perthshire. This area is often described as the “gateway to the Highlands”. Foliage-covered buildings have occupied the site since 1798, making Blair Athol one of Scotland’s oldest distilleries.

Rob Whitehead says: “One of the iconic Highland distilleries in my view, despite being far from one of the biggest selling. The style of whisky produced here is richly nutty and textured meaning it responds beautifully to many different kinds of cask. The whisky, and indeed the place, exude a quiet confidence and charm that I find myself keen to return to.”
