Doug McIvor

“Lovely cereal and honey notes to the fore. Energetic energy bars! There is a sweetness from apricot, a trace of peach and a little tartness from quince. The cereal begins to suggest sugar sprinkled cornflakes with a whiff of bruised banana. The palate delivers a biscuity platform upon which the fruits begin to stack. There is more in the way of mango and kiwi now and peach skin prickle. All builds well and integrates keeping the experience alive. The finish is well balanced, good and long with a lasting fruity, peachy sting. Very well composed.”

Tasting Notes

Enticing aromas of stewed apricot, orange marmalade and lemon curd lure one in. The addition of a little water brings out for gentle baking spice and vibrant green fruity distillate notes. The palate is wonderfully fat and chewy, throwing off more apricot, plums and tobacco leaf. There’s a whiff of wood smoke on the finish, along with a touch of wood spice and a mouthwatering, lingering note of fruit ja

Distillery

An old adage states that “Rome was built on seven hills, but Dufftown stands on seven stills”. Dufftown is one of the pre-eminent whisky towns of Speyside. Its distillery lies on the town’s outskirts near the ancient Mortlach Church

Jonny says: “The Speyside Festival is famous for it’s walking tour of the seven stills of Dufftown, which now takes in about nine distilleries including the closed ones. I remember visiting Dufftown distillery on one of these tours a few years ago and being surprised when a BB&R bottling of Dufftown 1982 was pulled out at the distillery, such is the rarity of single casks from Dufftown distillery.”
