Rob Whitehead

“This glorious Glen Garioch has a forthright nose of over-ripe and stewed fruits that are lusciously supported on the plate with toffees and caramels. The sherry wood here is keen to speak but held firmly in-check by the delicious oiliness of the spirit. Excellent stuff from a distillery where the sky is truly the limit.”

Tasting Notes

Glen Garioch and Sherry wood are one of the

finest matches in the whisky world – which is

why this robust malt has spent the last two years

building some extra muscle in a first-fill butt. The

bouquet offers dark chocolate and tea leaves,

with prune cake and spiced sultanas appearing

with time. Glen Garioch has incredible body, and

the palate is notably thick as dried fruit, wood

smoke, brambles and oak spice all demand your

attention. The finish lasts long, showing a perfect

balance of fruit, spice, smoke and Sherry wood.

It’s a perfect marriage of wood and distillate.

Distillery

Founded in 1797, Glen Garioch Distillery is one of Scotland’s oldest distilleries, siting just outside the town of Oldmeldrum in Aberdeenshire’s fertile barley plains. After a period of closure, it was revived in the 1970s. Production has since remained constant.

Jonny says: “Glen Garioch is another of Scotland’s slightly overlooked distilleries in my opinion, I’ve had the pleasure of trying many casks from Glen Garioch going back to the 1950s and there are real moments of glory that shine through… A distillery that deserves more attention.”
