“This cask shone out among its siblings in the warehouse for the effortless balance between distillery character and wood. I found it had just sufficient sherry-influence to support and nurture Glenallachie’s lovely gentle spirit through the cold dark years of maturation. This comforting dram will reward an evening’s consideration.”
Tasting Notes
This sherry butt shows a perfect meeting of wood and distillate; with the nose offering notes of rich toffee and dried fruit from the cask, mingling with fresh green fruit and citrus from the distillate. The palate gives more buttery toffee, Dundee cake and bags of wood spice. The finish is pleasantly drying, giving a lingering flavour of dates and prunes. A superlative sherry butt, ideal for sipping while contemplating life’s complexities.
Situated near the foot of Ben Rinnes, Glenallachie is a relatively modern distillery dating to the late 1960s. It produces approachable malts with fine credentials.
