Rob Whitehead

“A wickedly sweet nose of marshmallows and maple syrup, just barely inflected with forestfloor hints of bark and liquorice root. Molasses notes make an appearance, as do Jerk spices, making this a Whiskey to thrill any lover of Caribbean food and drink. A scant few drops of water give a warm, charming calm to this that will ensure enjoyment late into an evening.”

Tasting Notes

This bombastic bourbon does everything a devotee of pot still whiskey could wish for, and then some! At full strength the palate is tour de force of Bourbon; mashed banana, dark chocolate, fruit cake, spicy rye bread, and a little water shows real depth and subtlety too bringing out gooseberry jam, tobacco and strawberry laces. The finish brings a final burst of oak, and a slight note of coffee. Bourbon doesn’t get much better.

Distillery

Founded in 2014 by brothers Jonathan and Robert Likarish along with their inimitable mother Marcia, this Texan distillery uses the finest heirloom varietals of locally grown corn to produce a Bourbon with real character and integrity. The distillery is named in tribute to the local Thomas Munson’s phylloxera-resistant ‘iron-root’ grape vines.

Jonny says: “I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know the Likarish family a little on their trips to the UK; Jonathan, Robert and their mum Marcia are incredibly warm, big hearted people keen to share their exceptional whiskies and production knowledge. It’s great to see the distillery beginning to get real global recognition and I can think of few people more deserving!”
