“Not often seen from Indie Bottlers, it's always a pleasure to see a single cask from this idiosyncratic distillery.”

Tasting Notes

This Knockdhu has a dry, nutty nose expanding with time in the glass. It shows almonds and walnuts before green fruits and banana bread notes appear. The palate is an equally complex meeting of fruits, wood spice and distillate-driven nuttiness, offering an excellent mouthfeel. A little tobacco dances across the finish, with a burst of citrus and some honeyed green fruits.

Distillery

Founded in 1894 by John Morrison, Knockdhu distillery takes its name from the nearby Knockdu Hill, meaning “black hill” in Gaelic. For many decades, the distillery was a relatively unknown name in Speyside. The current owners have since brought its traditional style of whisky making to a new generation of connoisseurs with their AnCnoc single malt.

Felix Dear says: “Knockdu is a hidden gem that, despite its understated presence, has as distinctive a character as the 'black hill' that looms over it. Single Malts from this distillery are increasingly seen gracing the shelves of many a whisky afficianado.”
