Doug McIvor

“Creamy and attractively fruity with vanilla and citrus dancing well. The fruit is quite complex and retains sweetness. There are wonderful elements of summer fruits with a kiss of butterscotch. The oakiness is present but well in kilter. This is a nice and juicy dram with lots of luscious fruit throughout. It’s the definition of good length and balance!”

Tasting Notes

This subtle Highlander initially offers charming aromas of malted barley and austere green fruits, as is often the way however a little time in the glass allows this whisky to open up and notes of manuka honey, lemon oil and cedar appear. The distillate’s fruity character dominates the palate bringing orange, underripe peach, green wine gums and honeyed toast. The finish shows waves of wood spice and a touch of vanilla.

Distillery

Macduff Distillery, located in Macduff town, sits on the shore of the Deveron Estuary. The town’s harbour became home to herring fleets, the mainstay of the town’s economy. The distillery is relatively modern, having being built in 1960.

Jonny says: ““Macduff is a bit of ‘work horse’ distillery, producing millions of litres a year, mainly destined for Dewar’s blend, however like so many of these un-championed plants Macduff makes great whisky! Personally, I love this very distillate forward style that only comes from good quality spirit, matured in delicate casks for at least a decade.”
