Rob Whitehead

“Brightly grassy on the nose with floral touches, this Mannochmore demonstrates the elegance of the distillery character admirably. Almond and savoury spice are evident on the palate, rounded off with a finish that reminds me of woodland walks after the rain. A lovely example of old wood deftly supporting a light Speyside spirit, this’ll go beautifully with goat’s cheese.”

Tasting Notes

Quite mineral, grassy and malty on the nose as the fruit notes emerge. There is a green edge of lime and kiwi, apple and a little peppery edge. The palate builds well with more in the way of lemon zest, buttered toast and white pepper. Lingering and balanced in a refined manner.

Distillery

Mannochmore located just south of Elgin was built in 1971 as an addition to the Glenlossie distillery site and intended to produce spirit for Diageo’s Haig blends in times of need.

Doug says “Rarely seen as a single malt, this distillery has endured long periods of closure until after 2013 when the distillery began to increase production. The style of whisky produced here tends to be lighter in style but not as oily as sister distillery Glenlossie.”
