“This distillery was licenced to James Buchanan the proprietor of Black & White and Buchanan’s blended whiskies. Modest but with nothing to be modest about - one of those constantly consistent contributors. This expression on the nose has a combination of sweet apple and almond orchard and rich dark fruit which appear again on the palate and then almost as a Seasonal surprise, a perfumed fragrance of Christmas greets you at the back of the palate. Delicious”
Tasting Notes
This immense whisky was matured for ten years in a refill Oloroso butt, before being matured for a further two years in a fresh ex-Pedro Ximénez butt. It maybe clichéd to describe a sherry matured whisky as reminiscent of Christmas cake, but the aromas of rich fruit, baking spice, marzipan and maraschino cherriesoozing out of the glass are evocative of just that! The palate is almost too pleasurable to breakdown into tasting notes, a joyous rush of dried figs, stollen and blood orange, these notes linger on the finish with waves of gentle oak spice. A perfect seasonal dram to get your Claus into after a busy Christmas Day!
Glentauchers Distillery is a short drive from Keith, Banffshire. Its history can be traced back to 1898 when the founders chose the location at Tauchers Farm for easy access to the road and rail systems.
