Ronnie Cox

“Sweet treacle, creamy and good amount of wood. Sweet and sour in great balance. Long in the palate , spicy with mid-weight and flavours. Definitely a happy after-dinner dram with lots of vanillas, citrus and the delicious, faint reminder of Madeira cake.”

Tasting Notes

A warming spicy nose offers notes of sweet Madeira, Victoria Sponge and lashings of golden syrup. A little time in the glass allows the distillate to power through bringing some green apple and barley sugars into the equation. The chewy palate shows a good balance of sweet sticky dried fruit notes from the cask balanced off with fresher citrus bursts and perhaps a little nuttiness on the back palate. A well made whisky that delivers well in the powerful cask.

Distillery

Penderyn, known for producing “The Welsh Whisky”, was founded in 1998 and sits in the foothills of the Brecon Beacons. The distillery is known for experimenting with wood finishes, overseen by an all-female distilling team.

Rob says: “Having, since early childhood, holidayed repeatedly in various splendid parts of Wales, it has been delightful to watch the development of the first Welsh single malt in the modern era. Fascinating and characterful spirit is produced and then aged in an admirably wide range of cask types. To offer this very first ever Welsh whisky under our label has been a real pleasure, I feel sure there are more barrels of this calibre to be found in the Brecon Beacons.”
