Jonny McMillan

“Glen Elgin is often notable for it’s chewy mouthfeel and thick fruit distillate driven fruit notes – and this small batch is no exception! At 46% it’s perfect drinking strength for quaffing alongside a similarly fruity IPA this Spring!”

Tasting Notes

The nose opens with Glen Elgin’s trademark

burnt marmalade notes, alongside some

apples and pears. A little time in the glass

brings forward notes of crème brûlée with

spiced cream. The palate is muscular,

reminding us of Glen Elgin’s traditional

worm tubs, while a perfect balance of

fruit and oak waltz over the tongue. With

characterful liquid like this, it’s hard to

fathom why Glen Elgin isn’t one of the

biggest names in Scotch whisky.

Distillery

Glen Elgin is three miles south of Elgin – the last distillery to be established during the Victorian era. A collapse in the whisky market meant the distillery changed hands several times before joining the Distillers Company Ltd in the 1930s.

Ronnie says: “It can be found outside Elgin on the Rothes road in the delightfully named Fogwatt village. It offers the most delicious texture of whisky resultant from its 3 spirits stills and more particularly the worm condensers which are clearly visible outside of the stillhouse. I have always loved this unassuming distillery.”
